The Defendant then appealed to the Court of Appeal but the claim settled before the appeal was heard. Richard Edwards was her solicitor and Barbara’s account of the journey to trial appears below:

How did Richard come to be your solicitor?

Initially I asked a friend who I should use. She recommended another firm but they stopped trading. I then approached another firm in Liverpool where Richard worked and he took on my case.

What was it like going through the litigation?

It was a bit daunting. I met Mr Jennings, an expert in accident reconstruction. I also met the barrister, Peter Cowan. They helped to put me at ease.

The trial in the High Court in Liverpool was difficult. I had never been through anything like that before. I didn’t know what it was going to be like.

When I found out that I had won, it was such a big relief. I felt like a huge weight had been lifted from my shoulders.

After I won though the Defendant said that they would appeal. This made me nervous again!

I remember that before the appeal was heard the Defendant made an offer to settle the claim. This was a great relief. It was a lot of money and with it I knew I could now get on with my life.

What was it like dealing with Richard Edwards as your solicitor?

Richard was very professional. He put me at ease. He was easy to talk to. He chose the right barrister and expert witnesses for me to help me to win the claim. I could not have asked for anything more. I will be eternally grateful for what he did for me.
