Examples of road accident claims that Richard has acted in include:

• Representing a female who was hit by a HGV whilst crossing a road. The claimant lost her leg below the knee as a result of her injuries. Liability was denied. The original lawyers delayed taking any steps and so she transferred her claim to Richard. The claim was then brought by Richard to trial in the High Court where the claimant won (Barbara Hill v Master Concrete Northern Ltd [2010] EWHC 3613). The defendant insurers obtained permission to appeal to the Court of Appeal. A settlement for substantial damages was agreed before the appeal was heard.
• Representing an academic who was struck by a car whilst riding his bicycle. As a result he suffered a brain injury although the fact and extent of this was disputed. A range of expert witnesses were appointed to comment on the impact of the accident. The claim settled shortly before trial for just less than £1m.
• Acting for a cyclist who suffered a serious ankle fracture in a road accident. The fracture failed to heal. He elected to have surgical amputation below the knee. The claim settled for £5.5m with damages covering the cost of new accommodation, prosthetics, care and loss of earnings.
